How to Care for your Lab-Grown Diamond Ring

Diamonds are naturally beautiful, but it’s not only Nature that can create such a beauty. People can create diamonds in the laboratory that are exquisitely beautiful too. Jewelery enthusiasts love them, as they can be personalized based on your needs and wants. However, just like any other piece of precious jewelery, you definitely have to make sure that you will be taking good care of your custom-made accessory.

So, how often should you really be cleaning your lab-made diamonds? The answer to this question is as often as you can. You do not have to scrub it out every single day, but cleaning it at least twice to thrice a week would do it some good.

Cleaning it is especially important if you often go to the gym, wash dishes, apply creams and lotions, and do a lot of gardening. Basically, if you get your hands dirty and grimy, your ring gets dirty, too. This can cause the bacteria to spread, which you’d definitely want to avoid if you are concerned about your health at all.

If you do not have the time to clean your ring, then you can go to your trusted jeweler and have them clean the ring for you. However, if you want to clean it yourself, then you can follow these steps:

  1. First, if you can, take the ring off and put it somewhere safe. If you have a jewelery box or a dish at home, then place your ring there for the meantime and wear it again once you’ve cleaned your hands. Remember, although diamonds are quite hard and sturdy, they are not indestructible. They can still get damaged and chipped when they’re not properly taken care of. This is why it would be best to take them off when doing your usual chores.
  2. To clean it, grab a mild soap and mix it with warm water. Simply stir it around and get a toothbrush, dip it into the mixture, and scrub the ring with it. Remember to be gentle, as you would not want to scratch or chip the lab-made diamond jewel. You can use dish soap to get the job done, as this usually gets rid of dirt and grime on your ring. Soak it in the mixture for another 10-20 minutes then rinse it with warm water right after.
  3. If you want, you can try getting insurance for your ring. Most jewelery shops offer this when you are buying a ring for them – you only usually have to pay a small additional fee and you can get your ring insured. This is especially important if you usually wear your ring and you are worried that you might lose or damage it after a while.

Remember to have a professional jeweler take a look at your ring at least once or twice a year to ensure the best condition. Rings can be a bit expensive, and you definitely have to make sure that you’ll be taking care of it, especially if it has sentimental value to you.
